2) Workshop: "Constellations, Confrontations and Aspirations: Reflections on Diaspora and Transnationalism through the Lens of Youth Formations (Middle East and South Asia)",  York University , Toronto, 22-23 May 2012

This workshop examines, through a comparative lens and within a framework of transnational relations, contemporary forms of youth social and political engagement and the construction of youth subjectivities.  While open to geographic area, the key focus in this workshop rests on South Asia and the Middle East, including their diasporic populations. Among other objectives, it  assesses the emergent forms of transnationality that give youth cultural formations their particular contours, and to reflect on the new language that is at the heart of the aesthetics and politics of youth formations in different contexts of encounters with states, political regimes, and other actors.

3. First International Ottoman World Conference: “Foundational Coexistences Conference”, Karabuk, Turkey, 24-26 September 2012

Organized by the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Karabuk University.  The conference largely aims to look at the Ottoman Empire from the edges in terms of space and actors mainly from the late eighteenth century up until the end of the First World War while providing a venue for a thorough discussion of varied themes ranging from, but not confined to, the contention between the imperial center and provinces to Muslim and non-Muslim communities to foreigners and missionaries to religion and law to education to heterodox communities to land administration and fiscal systems to the demise of ancien regime to fine arts, literature, and architecture to military to merchants and bazaars to women in palace and society to press to modernization and industrialization to sufism and tasavvuf to secularization and constitutionalism to labor and bourgeoisie to crime and punishment to police forces and espionage to prisons and undergrounds and to the daily lives of commoners.

Papers accepted in both in English and Turkish. A collection of articles selected out of the papers presented in the conference will be pub-lished by a major academic press in English. 4. IAAB International Conference on the Iranian Diaspora, Los Angeles, 13-14 October 2012

The conference aims to engage a diverse array of academics, community leaders, artists, and members of the global Iranian diaspora. In addition to providing an open environment for productive and interactive dialog on cutting edge research, community programs, and cultural productions, it will also serve to build a stronger network of Iranians across borders.

5. Postes á l`Institut Français d`Archéologie Orientale - Le Caire

L’Institut français d’archéologie orientale du Caire recrute des membres scientifiques pour une durée d’un an renouvelable trois fois au plus. Les nominations sont prononcées pour une durée d’une année à compter du 1er septembre 2012. Pour l’année 2012-2013, trois postes dont 1 à titre étranger sont vacants.

Les conditions pour faire acte de candidature :
1. soit être des doctorants ;
2. soit être titulaires d’un diplôme national de niveau égal ou supérieur au doctorat 3. soit être maîtres de conférences ou personnels assimilés en application de l’article 6 du décret du 16 janvier 1992 susvisé ; 4. soit justifier de titres ou diplômes universitaires ou scientifiques étrangers jugés équivalents par la commission d’admission.

6. Specialists on Middle Eastern History, University of Haifa

The Department of Middle Eastern History at the University of Haifa is planning to extend its enrollment of faculty over the next few years.
To this end, we are interested in creating a pool of potential candidates for the positions which we expect to offer within this time-span.

Candidates with a Ph.D., teaching experience, and a record of publications are hereby invited to submit a CV, an updated list of publications, and three letters of recommendation from specialists in their areas of research. 7.  Position of Scientific Director at the Centre for Research on Africa and the Mediterranean (CERAM),  École de Gouvernance et d’Économie de Rabat (EGE)

The Scientific Director oversees the development of research activities within EGE. He/she heads a team of researchers with disciplinary back-grounds in social sciences and the humanities. The Scientific Director ensures the coordination and the supervision of the activities of the CERAM and its members and reports solely to the Executive Director of EGE. As a new institution within the larger project of EGE, CERAM adopts an in-terdisciplinary approach, provides trilingual (French, English, Arabic) learning and contributes to a positive evolution of relations between the northern and southern hemispheres.

This strategic position calls for a strong and dynamic personality able to operate innovatively in a challenging environment where the academic, administrative and public relations sectors are among the Scientific Director’s primary fields of professional interaction. He/she will therefore need to possess a creative and strategic vision in order to further the objectives of EGE and CERAM, namely to actively put CERAM on the map as the knowledge-producing research centre of the South by combining the benefits of both the worlds of academia and entrepreneurship.

The successful candidate will:
• Hold a PhD in social sciences
• Have at least ten years of post-doctoral research experience • Publish in peer-reviewed academic journals in own field(s) of expertise • Demonstrate the ability to design and direct (individual and collective) research projects for a team of researchers • Be willing to share his/her own professional networks with CERAM, its members and the senior management of EGE • Demonstrate the ability to coordinate and mentor research among a group of researchers • Be able to identify individual researchers’ strengths and combine these strengths to develop cross-disciplinary research projects and identify new relevant competencies in coordination with the senior management of EGE • Have a teaching experience in social sciences

8. Thesiger-Oman Fellowships

The Thesiger-Oman Fellowship offers two Fellowships of £8,000 annually for geographical research in the arid regions of the world. One fellowship will focus on physical aspects of arid environments and the second fellowship awarded will consider the human dimension of arid environments.

The fellowship funds a researcher with an outstanding research proposal, including periods of arid environment fieldwork. Research within the Middle East and other areas visited by Thesiger, will be given priority.

9. Artikel für neue Zeitschrift "Iranistik"

Die neue Reihe der Zeitschrift „Iranistik“ wird von der „Iran University Press“ (Markaz-e Našr-e Dânešgâhî) in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Seminar für Iranistik der Universität Göttingen (Dr. Shahrokh Raei) veröffentlicht.  „Iranistik“ ist eine deutschsprachige Zeitschrift, welche halbjährlich erscheint. Sie beschäftigt sich mit Neuiranistik, ebenso wie mit Altiranistik. Weiterhin bietet die Zeitschrift ein wissenschaftliches Forum, bezüglich der Forschung in verschiedenen Bereichen des Faches Iranistik.

Die Zeitschrift akzeptiert deutsche Aufsätze, sowie Rezensionen aus verschiedenen Forschungsbereichen der Iranistik.
